My daugther is 17. She has a history of health problems. She has dysautonomia, migraines and endometiosis.
For three years now, she has been "sick and tired" on a constant basis. Her ped tested her for every disease/condition he could think of and found nothing, other than the dysautonomia. (she has pre-syncope issues)
Last year, she had appendicitis and found out after it was removed that she had a malignant carcinoid tumor in her appendix. She had a full body scan and no other tumors were found.
She got sick on Christmas day with a high fever, sore throat, body aches, etc. She went to the dr about 6 times and got all sorts of different medicines and diagnoses before they said that everything that was said before was wrong....she had mono and cmv both.
The dr says he thinks she is week three of the virus because her spot test levels were very high. She seems to be getting worse instead of better. She can't stand up, can barely stay awake and was complaining yesterday that her throat was swelling shut and her abdomen was hurting.
Her ped gave her some steriods for the swelling and she is getting an ultrasound of her abdomen this afternoon to check her spleen.
I have looked through some things online, and what I can find on having both viruses at the same time looks pretty grim. She needs to get back to school as soon as she can because she cannnot miss anymore assignments. She has also been looking forward to AAU basketball season (Feb) and now we don't know if she will be able to play. She is a college prospect and I don't know if this will impact her future in sports.
Does anyone here have/or had both viruses at the same time?
What can we expect and should we be doing anything different to treat it? Is there a specialist that handles this, or will her ped still be the best way to go?
One more question....when asked medical issues/history, will she now have to tell them that she has ebv and cmv? does it make a difference when it goes latent?
Thank you very much for reading. I am very nervous for her right now.
