Could the drug Clonazepam be causing loss of erections?

My husband is 31 years old and has been treated for sleepwalking/night terrors with the drug Clonazepam for at least 2 years now.  I've noticed in the past year or so he has been spontaneously losing erections in the middle of sex and unable to keep an erection.  Sometimes he can't get one at all....  it's been getting worse.  Could this drug be causing these ED problems?  And if he stopped using the drug, would his ED problems go away (if that infact was the cause)?  I just want to stop this problem from getting worse.  He's in perfect health, not overweight.....so I can't figure out why he's having ED problems.  Please help.

Clonazepam is a very powerful drug which can definitely interfere with both erections and orgasm.

I can't tell you for sure whether the drug is affecting him. This question can only be answered after having a thorough exam by a urologist.

He should see a urologist immediately to find out some answers and also to find out about other drug options for him.

It's important to note that whatever drug option he pursues MAY still affect his erections, though minimally. The two of you may need to adjust your attitudes about erections on command.

It's also important to realize that for some men, once they've experience erection concerns due to physical factors, this can, in turn, create an emotional response. They worry so much about erections that even after the physical problem has been dealt with, their worry and stress prevents them from getting an erection.

You can help with this by assuring him that the two of you will find answers together and there's no pressure on him to get an erection instantly. Be patient and supportive and let him know that you're with him regardless of what his situation is. Point out that good sex doesn't require a constant erection and that there are lots of fun things the two of you can explore. Best of luck to you. Dr. J
