When to use an erectile dysfunction medication?

When do you make the jump to erectile dysfunction medication?  How often does impotence have to occur to make that decision?  Are there guidelines for this or do you make the call yourself?

Asking cause doesn't this happen from time to time for most?  At what point do they call it ED? When do they start treating it?

Well, I think it just depends on how any particular guy feels - if he’s thinking it’s a prblm, then it might be. As long as your Dr. doesn’t see anything (like heart disease, etc.) that prevents use of one of the ED meds, I don’t think there’s any harm in using them. They can also be used on a case by case basis - I’ve heard of guys that use them just to ensure there won’t be any issues, and sometimes once things are working OK, they get along without them until the next time they feel it might help.

Your Dr can prbly help the decision about whether to use an ED med after asking some questions, like how frequently does it occur, when you do get erections,  how firm are they, etc. Certainly no harm in bringing this up w/ your Dr. - in fact, Dr’s are now encouraging their male patients to let them know when ED issues crop up (which are pretty common as we get older) because sometimes it’s a sign of another, possibly more serious, health issue...

Also now some online pharmacies & sites like ‘Roman’ allow you to consult w/ a specialist over the phone or online & prescribe an ED med (if appropriate) w/ out seeing your reg Dr. if you’re not comfortable discussing this with him/her.

Good luck & let us know how it turns out - there are millions of guys in the same situation that can benefit from hearing others’’ experiences & advice!
Also - should have mentioned that if the prblm is kind of intermittent (i.e., not too severe & sometimes things work OK), you can try some ‘natural’ and/or herbal treatments that may help. The amino acid L-Arginine is known to dilate blood vessels & help w/ erections, L-Citrulline does the same & may be even more effective. Maca root may help, and there are other herbals that you can look up online that may have some positive effects. Many co’s are marketing blends of multiple herbals & some also contain L-Arginine, L-Citrulline, or both. It’s worth trying some of these, they may help without needing a Rx ED med like Viagra, Cialis, Levitra, etc. Basically, you have nothing to lose by trying these - if they don’t help much, you still have the option of getting a Rx med...
Hey, thanks man. Appreciate this info!
Hey, no prblm, GR !! Always appreciate your solid answers & thoughts on readers’ questions! I’m dealing w/ ED issues myself after my prostate cancer surgery in Jul ‘18, now 14 months out & still struggling, things might be improving just a bit, but starting to get nervous cause some guys never regain function. They say it can take up to 18 or even 24 months to improve after the nerve damage, but you shd start seeing progress after a year, and I haven’t seen a whole lot yet. Trying to stay optimistic, but getting a little anxious about it...

Anyway, I’ve done quite a bit of research on ED, what causes it, which ‘natural’ treatments might help & of course, the common meds like Viagra, etc. There’s definitely hope for this & the medical treatments are getting better all the time. It also helps that this has kind of come out of the closet, so to speak - in the past I think way too many guys suffered in silence, never told their Dr’s or sought help. Its so common that there’s a huge market for these meds, and therefore, a lot of $$ to be made, which translates into $Billions spent on R&D for new treatments. I predict there may be even more drugs available with better efficacy & fewer side effects in the near future...

I think your question is self explanatory. You don't treat cold when you don't have it. You can try to postopone it by following a diet and keeping yourself in shape. But in most cases, people don't think about it untill it hits. Just like with the rest of illnesses.
