Chest, Rib and Lower Right Back Pain for almost 4 months now

At the end of August I was continuing to do P90x workouts although not in great shape but good enough to keep up with them. I went bowling one night after I was already sore from a vigourous workouts throughout the week. Ever since then I have had moderate to severe pain underneath and behind my right rib cage and into my chest. It feels like a have a ball stuck behind there many times and I can't even sleep on my right side. I have had numerous blood tests since then and chest x-rays that have show nothing. I would like to have an MRI done but my doctor has not ordered one and referred me to a rheumotologist who ruled out arthritis or bone injury but referred me back to my primarty doctor?? I am very frustrated now and at the breaking point, depressed can't do every day activities or anything. I am a 27 year old male and have played sports throughout my life. If this were an injury from my workouts wouldn't it have healed by now from all the anti-inflammatory meds and not working out and trying to avoid strain?? Where do I go from here? I might go to the emergency room today but am not too hopeful they will find out what is going on. I am still worried about kidney, liver type stuff but all the blood tests seem to be okay. I just feel the pain is in those areas but my ribs are also tender.

Thank you for your response. I had an MRI of my chest yesterday and am waiting until Monday for the results. Isn't it odd though that the pain has only gotten worse over the last 4 months? I have taken all types of pills and steroids with little or no relief. The only thing that honestly seems to help sometimes is alcohol-when not taking the meds of course. And without having pain in the left side the first few months and now starting to have it there it concerns me also. It's just hard to tell wether or not the pain is coming from beneath the ribs or from the ribs and muscles themselves.

Hi, it appears to be a musculoskeletal pain rather than something related to liver or kidney. I say this because you have your blood tests normal and the ribs are tender to touch, although I cannot figure out the exact cause of the pain by just reading the history. You'll definitely be able to take part in sports later on but at this time I would suggest you to avoid any sporting activity. Do what ever gives you relief from the pain like rest, avoiding exertion and physical activities which causes pain, takes prescribed anti-inflammatory medications and visit your family doctor as scheduled. Don't get frustrated as the pain is not going to last for ever. All the best.
