Daughters Chronic Calf Pain, Knots

My 17 year old daughter has been a soccer player since she was 6. She is currently playing premiere club. Three years ago she started having pain and knots in her calves. She has been to an acupuncturist, an MD and a Chiropracter/Nutritionist. All to no avail. We regularly massage her calves, however it has gotten to the point that she may not be able to play. This would be devastating to her. I have just read on the forum about others that are experiencing similar problems. I am going to have her circulation checked and maybe compartment syndrome, although I don't know what that is.

I would appreciate any ideas anyone has about what to do next!

I personally would rule out the electrolyte imbalance and dehydration first. If we have excessive sodium but minimal potassium then our electrolytes are out of balance. Make sure she is drinking plenty of water. Thirdly, with all the exercise she will most likekly have overly worked and tight calves.

Eat more potassium rich foods, drink plenty of water, and stretch. If after doing these things religiously and no improvement then at that point look into other problems. If you feel it is to serious right now then see a doctor.

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!
It will be a good idea to get her circulation checked for she could be suffering from deep vein thrombosis or a clot in the deep veins. It could also be compartment syndrome. Since she is a sports person, the other possibility is electrolyte imbalance—get her sodium, potassium and calcium checked.
Hope this helps. Do let me know if there is any thing else and keep me posted. Take care!
