For anyone out there who started out at least 100 lbs. over weight, how did you start your exercise program?  Did you have to lose 20 - 50 lbs. first? I need your advice.

I never had that problem. What you must do first is talk to your doctor to get the OK. If you're going to join a gym or exercise at home you must do strength training first and cardio. last. Strength training doesn't mean you have to lift 100 pounds. if you use 5 pounds it's good. You also have to diet.
If you go online and google home exercise routine for woman.you will find many routines.

Thanks for the advice TTinKKerBBell.  You are right.  I haven't been patient with myself.  I will go back to walking and enjoying nature.  Your husband is one lucky guy, and I'm sure he knows it. Thanks again.

I've never needed to lose weight but I am BIG TIME into fitness and exercise.  What I would advice first and foremost is to start walking.  Take a walk each and every day.  The most important thing is to be patient with YourSelf.  EVERYTHING YOU DO COUNTS!!  You will begin to walk further and faster without even realizing the extra effort as You get used to it.  My husband is a BIG man with a BIG appetite.  Something He does to keep His appetite down is He will eat an apple (crisp, cold, juicy ones) and drink a glass of water before every meal.  This fills/satisfies Him so that He doesn't tend to overeat.  He doesn't exactly diet but He's made a life-style change and He does forego highfat foods and snacks, sodas too.  He drinks a lot of water (as do I). As You grow stronger and more fit it would be good to start using free weights.  You don't have to use heavy weight but if You are consistent You will build muscle (not a lot) and You will burn more fat as muscle burns more calories than does fat - even when You are at rest.  The heaviest weight I use is 12lbs.  I use 6, 8, 10 and 12.  I am not "muscle bound" but my musles are well toned and well defined.  I'm actually very small I and wouldn't want large muscles.   I stress again to be patient with YourSelf - You will want to lose quickly but it truely is better to lose slowly so Your body has time to recover and adjust to the new weight a little at a time.  It will be better for Your skin to lose slowly also.
Good Luck and I wish You success,
Tink
