Need to lose weight!

I've changed my eating habits within the last month. I hardly drink pop, I don't eat much junk food at all. I'm controlling my portions and exercising. How is it I'm not losing?

I stopped a few months ago out of frustration. I was working out and eating 3 portioned (and as balanced as I could) meals a day. yet over the 4 months I was doing this I gained 30 pounds. I weigh 185 and I'm 5' 4. I'm making another attempt to get fit, this time I'm also trying to lose 30-40 pounds.

I have a new tredmill and plan on working out everyday after work. I'm wondering if anyone has any tips to help me lose this weight?? Or maybe help as to why I gained the 30 in the first place??

It's very difficult, isn't it? May I suggest the following for slow weight loss:
Calculate your total metabolic needs for a day (for your weight and activity level and subtract 500. That is your target for calorie consumption. (Make sure it is at least 1200).
Exercise moderately, perhaps 500 calories a day. More vigorous exercise may stimulate your appetite.
Keep a food diary. Some studies have shown more diet success by doing so.
Eat (unprocessed) food. Mostly plants. Avoid sweet beverages, both natural and diet.
Anyway, that's what I am trying. Good luck.
