Enlarged Pupil

3 weeks ago , I got hit in the eye with a plastic coat hanger. My eye became suddenly bloodshot and my pupil dilated I also saw blurry out of it for about 4 hrs. I went to the eye specialist who said I suffered from traumatic irtis and gave me Prednisolone to treat the inflammation. I am due to stop taking the prednisolone in 3 days and my pupil is still enlarged comparied to my normal eye , the pupil is a bit smaller then it originally was when hit but still bigger then my regular eye. When I went to see my optomogist after the specialist he said that I had no nerve damage and my pupil is still the same shape and form as my regular pupil. I see perfect out of the eye and the redness is gone the only problem that remains is that my pupil is still enlarged. I am extremely worried that my pupil will never go back to its original size. Can you please let me know if you think it will and how long may it take if it does eventually go back to original size.

Thank you

Yes there are contact lenses that will make both eyes look the same.... for most of the time.  If you are in a really bright light outside your good pupil may look a bit smaller than your bad pupil.  Visa versa for dim lighting, but no one will be able to tell in the dark any how.

Well it has only been 3 weeks and I have seen significant improvment each week. I will wait at least 2 months before spending hundreds of dollars on contacts. My plan B if my pupil never returns to normal is to get to contacts with fixed pupils so they will both look exactly equal. I don't really know how it works , not too familar with cosmedic contacts

Are you using any other eye drops other than the prednisilone?  Sometimes the eye doc may perscribe a mydriatic or cycloplegic.  These will keep your pupil big....and your pupil will not consctict.  Any movement of the iris (constrict or dilate may be very painful for your eye)  if that was the case that me be why your pupil is large and it will go away in time.  Did your doctor put in a drop of Atropine at your initial visit?

I'm not sure what drops were used in the intial visit but my pupil became enlarged as soon as I was hit in the eye. Now 3 weeks later I am noticing slight improvements every 3 or 4 days. The pupil does become smaller in daylight but not as small as my good eye. I am extremely worried that it will not look the same as my other pupil. This has extremely depressed me. God willing it will go back to normal eventually and if it doesn't , hopefully there are contact lens that will make both pupils look the same

no one has any idea.  i dont know and neither does anyone else whether it will ever go back to normal or how long it would take if it did.

if you sustained damage to the eye or nerves to the eye, then it is possible that it will never go back.  if the pupil size difference is from the iritis or a side effect of the pred, then hopefully it will go back to normal.

as for the amount of time, no one knows.  days/weeks/months/years/never...no one knows.  too many factors to try and predict.
