I've been suffering from chronic red eyes since 8/06. I've become so self-conscious now that I won't look at people directly or in the eye when talking to them. I've been to many many drs and they all say the same thing... that I suffer from Chronic Dry Eyes. I think this is a crock of b.s. I've been using Restasis for about 4 months now and it hasn't made one bit of difference. I've used Systane, Soothe, Refresh... everything, to no avail. My eyes don't feel 'dry'. I don't feel uncomfortable when I wear my contacts. In an effort to try and get rid of this, I've given up wearing contacts on a daily basis. Someone here mentioned that It could be from Birth Control use. I have a Mirena IUD w/hormones in it. Maybe this is the culprit of all my misery...
Nothing seems to help. Should I ask my dr for Alrex? Will it help me?
I have been having the exact same problem for one year now. I live outside of Philadelphia and have been to five opthamalogists and a hematologist. I have tenon cysts so now I am having them removed. I hope this solves my problem.
I had similar problem..very unusual..found that it is related to candidiasis...you can get candida from using birth control pills or antibiotics, even just short term use but longer term is more dangerous. do you have other problems? fatigue, depression, memory loss, headache or body aches, constipation or diarrhea or both? many other symptoms also,;people usually think the different problems are unrelated and after seeking treatment for each symptom seperately and not getting better but just using a lot of different medicines to temporarily mask each symptom, sooner or later you end up finding out about candida after a lot of suffering..please research candidiasis and see if it sounds like your problem...bless you...sorry for your pain...try to pray sincerely also...mark
ahhh that seems very possible that it would help thank you!!.
Problem is because of my allergies persistantness specialists have never found a cause to my all year problem. Will that affect wether or not the medication can be used?
I have got patanol in my cupboard now actually but it doesnt seem to work... is that because it needs some sort of combination with another drop ?
But im glad you have showed this new option to me this is what i was looking for. A longer term solution!!
Thanks for the help
oh i just realised usually my right eye is more susceptable to redness and sensitivity when moving from left to right or up and down . It is at the moment actually.
patanol will never clear up a raging red eye. patanol is much better at PREVENTING red eye from allergies. but once you're red, patanol is like a drop in the bucket IMO.
you could likely be on alrex for long term therapy...
thats what its designed for, anyway.
epicleritis and scleritis dont occur in both eyes simultaneously. so if BOTH of your eyes are red, its not scleritis or episcleritis.
it does sound like ocular allergy to me as well. there arent that many things that make non-contact lens wearers red in BOTH EYES on a chronic/recurrent basis.
you cant be on pred for lengthy periods of time b/c of risk of raised intraocular pressure and cataracts.
if you do, in fact, have ocular allergy with chronic redness, which it certainly sounds possible/probable, you need probably need to be on long term therapy/management. alrex is a newer low-concentration steroid specifically designed for lenger-term therapy of moderate ocular allergy. you may also need antihistamines like optivar, zaditor, patanol, etc
