flashes was started.
Hi Melissa,
I'm new here and read your post. Just wanted to say that you and I have nearly the exact same case. I'm 32, had PRK 7 years ago, and was struck in the left eye 4 months ago.
Since then I have increased floaters and flashers. the floaters got better after about 2 months, but haven't progressed much lately. I read on here that 6-9 months is more reasonable time frame for them.
The flashers have gotten less frequent and seem to now be Presure Phosphenes, some kind of pressure induced optical illusion. If I understand it correctly pressure and bends in the eyeball stimulate the retina which makes us see curved shapes of light (like a crescent moon or a bullseye{what I see most often}). These phenomenon occur at extremes in the eye, like left corner, bottom.
The pressure phosphenes everyone has and they don't cause problems; the flashers according to another post should last 3 months or less, and if they last a year and half get checked again. (I'm checking on my eye injury every 12 months atleast!)
All of this information I gathered by reading the posts here and doing a simple search on Yahoo for "Pressure Phosphene Flash".
I hope this helps you as it has me,
T
Melissa - what you are experiencing does sound very much like what I described in my post below. Except that I am only somewhat near-sighted (2.75 and 3) and have not had any of the other problems you have had.
I have been trying to get an answer on this phenomenon (which has progressively worsened) over the course of ten years. The fact that no one seems to be able to give me an answer (even this forum's doctor) is driving me as crazy as having lights moving around in my field of vision.
Since the neurologist has done a thorough work-up and told me it is not a neurological problem, I am going to try seeing a super-specialist (university hospital) and then call it quits. It's hard to believe that there are still medical mysteries nowadays, but it seems so.
there are MANY medical mysteries
You are right and I appreciate your honesty.
if a surgeon has deemed you dont have a hole/tear/detachment, then tnhats good news! you could still have retinal traction and floaters...not much anyone can do for those...
