5 year old diagnosed with +2.25 farsighted

Hello Doctor,

My 5 year old son was diagonsed with farsightedness when we went for Kindergarten eye exam.We had no idea that he needed glaases. He reads and writes very well. When the doctor checked him, she asked him to read the alphabets and he couldn't read the last line. She did the eye drop test too.Her prescription was
OD +2.25,-1.25,05
OS +2.25 , - 1.25, 172

We got the glasses today and he wore it.I don't see any difference between now and then.Glasses look like a magnifying glasses to me.I did get a second opinion before ordering the glasses from another doctor.Should i continue with the glasses or should i consult a pediatric Opthamologist.

Thanks

Hello I know you were asking the doctor but  I felt I should telly you about my son.He is now 9 but he too has a very strong perscription +7.00.So as you can imagine we were shocked when we found out.He never crossed his eyes never ran into or tripped over things. In fact he went through a whole year of pre school learning the alphabet & everything.Never had a problem. Then when they did the eye exam in kindergarten the school nurse told us he couldn't read anything.I couldn't believe he went 5 years and never seemed to have a single problem. But then I realized how can he know he's not seeing clear,if he's never seen clearly.Once he got his glasses & started pointing things out I felt terrible for letting him go 5 years without them.I'm just saying my son has bad vision & sometimes you never can tell.Get a second opinion if it makes you feel better.

I guess it depends on how much you trust the doctors that you saw.  I don't know his specifics so I cannot make any comment on what was done.  I don't hear anything that sounds strange or unusual.  I guess as simply as I can say it is that if you don't trust the opinion you got, then see a pediatric ophthalmology specialist.  Sometimes kids don't really like to wear their glasses when they first get them.  If you got two separate opinions aleady, maybe that may give you at least some confidence??
