Afterimage inverted colours?

Hi all

my problem is seeing inverted colours after looking at a colour. eg if im looking at red. i will then see a light blue afterimage in my vision in the shape of what i was looking at. its fairly annoying. i will also see purple tints on anything lit up in pitch black. eg headlamps on cars at night

anyone know the problem or why this happens?

It's normal and happens to everyone.  It is the result of certain retinal cells that see a color getting temporarily tired out.  The doctor here will explain it more clearly for you, but here is a very cool illustration of the phenomenon:
