Bad News Restore Lens

3 weeks ago I had cataract removal with ReStor implanted in left eye.  2 weeks ago I had the right eye done.  I was having some problems with left eye, but surgeon said vision would be better with both eyes.  I am having all kinds of problems.  If light is very bright I see good, but get a kind of strobing effect, if light is low I don't see distance or up close very well.  Have had pretty severe headaches since I had first eye done.  For several days, not only do I have headaches, strobe effect but also upset stomach almost to the point of vomiting.  I am very nervous as I know the reccomend time for removing these lens is 1 month.  I had this done at a prestigious hospital in Nashville.  My surgeon has reassured me that it will get better with time, but am very lerry about leaving them in and being stuck with a bad result.

Dear cmj1949,

I would speak further with your eyeMD about the difficulties that you are experiencing.  Sometimes, it takes 3 months to adapt to these lenses; however, a further discussion with your eyeMD is needed.  You should also be informed about the benefits and risks of removal.

Dear cmj1949
I also had a restor lens that I had explanted after six months, so it can be done later. ReStor is such a different type of vision that it is possible that you could still adapt but I would seek other expert medical opinions from highly experienced and qualified surgeons. I would not let any one talk me into getting a Yag laser at this point to clear up the vision. That will but a hole in your capsule and make the explant if there was to be one very difficult and most surgeons would not want to touch it.
Some people never adapt to Restor or have what is called "vaseline vsion" which is what it sounds like. In my case the wrong prescription was implanted and the quality of the vision for me was very poor on top of it so I did not have the second eye done. There are many posts about Restor on this forum.
Take heart that you do still have options if you are not satisfied with your Restor vision.
