I am a 38 year old woman who has been diagnosed with chorodial neovascularization secondary to pathological myopia in my right eye. A flourescein angiograthy was performed and I have a retinal hemorrhage in my right eye. I am presently receiving double therapy treatment, PDT with Visudyne in combination with Lucentis injections. I understand my left eye is also at risk and that there is some thinning and weakening of the membrane. My primary concern is in regards to my left eye and any preventative measures I can take to avoid the risk of the development of wet MD/ chrodial neovascularization (CNV) in the left eye, as my understanding is that it is unlikely I will recover my central vision in my right eye even with treatment. I would like to get a second opinion and speak to a specialist who treats wet MD/ CNV, ideally one who is also involved in research and clinical trials. Assuming I can get a referral, I am prepared to go anywhere in the U.S. for a second opinion and am trying to sort out how to identify the best retinal opthamologists who deal with this condition particularly since I understand that there are recent advancements in this field in the last few years. I came across an archived post from 2006 referencing a US News article that identifies the top three eye centres as: Bascon Palmer, Wilmer Eye Institute and Wills Eye Hospital. Can you please confirm if this information is still current or if there are other facilities I should be pursuing.
