I had L. cataract surgery, 19 months ago at a Medical School in Houston. Left eye, as it had no stigmatism like the Rt. eye. Post-op, Large PV detachment, left peripheral problems, distorted vision in L.eye and sharp, knife like pain in the upper lid. Getting no satisfaction to my post-op problems, I saw a new MD who diagnosed the Large PVD. I was not crazy. The new eyeMD stated he saw this Large PVD another time and the man suffered 2 years before it finally settled to the bottom. He was a kind doctor. He also DX a stigmatism in the surgical eye. Did did not have this pre-op. He saw some scarring in upper lid from the cataract removal..thus the reason for the sharp lid pain. Was referred to Retinal doc for a consult who confirmed the PVD. His exam also revealed a stigmatism now in the surgical eye. (original eye surgeon said NO to a post-op stigmatism) Due to insurance/hospital changes, I saw 2 more eye doctors confirming the large PVD and also a post-op stigmatism in the surgical eye. Two eye doctors stated they thought the power may be off in my new lens as I was describing more than one problem. I asked originating surgeon to send records to Alcon. This was not done. I sent them to Alcon. I need answers before proceeding with other eye. I also learned that an eye surgeon can make a tiny slit in the cornea to correct stigmatism while doing surgery and a Toric IOL is not always necessary. Doctors, what can I expect to learn from Alcon? Do they have MD's to check the power? I need the other eye done and I am so scard. Do I have to stick with an Alcon Lens for the right eye with a known stigmatism since the left eye has an Alcon lens? I am happy to announce that the MD, I saw (after leaving Baylo) and the Retinal doctor he referred me to were correct "the Large PVD has almost settled on the bottom"..Still cannot read clearly in L.eye (post-op) due to distortion but at least the PVD Globs/lights are settling. Thanks for your help. It has been a rough 19 months for me.
