Can Macular Degeneration Occur from only a small amount of "eye damage"

As someone who suffers from health anxiety, I have been worried a lot about my eyes recently after seeing some articles talking about Macular Degeneration. I have also seen studies like this one https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2831109/

which seem to say that if some of these harmful reactive oxygen species in your eyes are produced, that causes a cascade effect where it goes on to cause further damage. Does this mean that even in a young person, if something happens that causes these ROS to be generated (e.g. Long term exposure to bright blue light, smoking etc), does this then result in a chain reaction which can cause conditions like Macular Degeneration, or does it not progress in this way?

Likely age related macular degeneration develops in several ways.  To reduce the risk:  eat a great diet, lots of green leafy vegetables and not much highly processed carbs, exercise and do not get obese, don't use any tobacco products, evolving evidence don't use cannabis products, protect your eye from heavy sun exposure (hat and sunglasses).  See an ophthalmologist yearly after 40.  Light from computer/video screens are not felt to be a cause of ARMD

Thanks for your response. I had seen some reports from a few years ago talking about using screen in the dark, and that it was much more intense due to your pupils dilating, is there any merit to this, or is the intensity still well below any harmful level?

I also am quite sensitive to light, my eyes hurt quite easily even in not too bright light. Does this photo-sensitivity increase ones chances of developing Macular Degeneration?

Macular degeneration is more common in light colored eyes (blue, gray, green) than in dark brown and more common in light colored skin than dark colored skin.  Not with pupil size.  Electronic screens do not emit the type of light that make macular degeneration more common
