Astigmatism can change but usually over months to years and should be eliminated with proper glasses. Irregular astigmatism such as with keratoconus is often not corrected with glasses but may be corrected with rigid contacts and should show up on a corneal topography a test I hope you've had

Did you ever find the answer to this? I'm currently experiencing the same issue
Thank you Dr. Hagen. I've been to 4 retina specialists (had numerous OCTs, an ICG and 2 FAs), 2 corneal specialists, 2 neuro-ophthalmologists (have another scheduled in November) and a neurologist (ordered a brain MRI - normal - and mitochondrial bloodwork - pending). I've also seen two optometrists - the one who prescribed the Feb 2015 glasses change and another one who validated the prescription.
In the process,I was told the following:
- Mild degree of irregular astigmatism - no corneal disease
- No lenticular astigmatism
- Beginning of cataracts, but they said they were insignificant
- No macular involvement - no MD, no edema, no CSR, etc.
- Neuros didn't think eye muscles were an issue*
- Not sure about eye torsion, but presume they tested (but my right eye sometimes feels as though something is "pulling" on it)
* - I'm presently seeing an ophthalmologist who primarily deals with TBI patients. She evaluated for 4th cranial nerve palsy and periodic alternating skew deviation. She thinks I could have the latter. I'm presently doing eye exercises and vestibular rehab (about 5 weeks in). However, my symptoms remain.
I've always wondered about the glasses/refraction. The distortion is present with and without glasses. Is it possible for astigmatism to change significantly? My thought is that if the astigmatism changed and the glasses didn't correct for that change, I would see the same way - distorted, slanted curved - with or without the glasses.
Any additional thoughts? Thanks so much for your help doctor.
KCP1: It would be important to be certain that your eyes have had an expert refraction (glasses testing) as uncorrected or improperly corrected refractive errors especially astigmatism can cause this; as can improperly adjusted glasses or improperly fitted glasses;
After that corneal diseases causing irregular astigmatism can cause this and somewhere along the way you should have had a corneal topography. Early cataract formation can cause this. Macular disease such as macular edema, age related macular degeneration, epiretinal macular membranes (macular pucker) can cause this so you should also have had a macular OCT. Problems related to the eye muscles especially superior oblique (4th nerve) problems might cause this so your eye muscles should be evaluated closely.
Eye torsion can also occur from drug reactions, inner ear problems and central nervous system disease (rotary nystagmus for example).
I think it extremely important that you have seen a neuro-ophthalmologist and corneal specialist.

It's in both eyes. I do have dry eyes and have been using lubricating drops, but it doesn't help. I don't wear contact lenses.
One thing I do have is a lot of sinus pain and pressure. I've been to an ENT and he says it's not the cause of the distortion and slanting. Still, it makes my eyes sore.
In any case, thanks for you reply. I will continue with the lubricating drops because it's a good thing nonetheless. One thing I have been told in my travels is to always use preservative free drops because you can use them more frequently.
Do you have slanted vision only when both eyes are open? Does it go away if you close one eye or does it stay the same? If its with both eyes, its a muscle problem. If its only in one eye.... I'd suspect one of the following--
Do you wear contact lenses? They can cause this. Do you have dry eyes? Poor tear film can cause this. See if a lubricating drop helps.
Thanks for your help and encouraging words. I really appreciate that! My eyes are definitely fatigued (as am I) - and I will try to rest and relax more completely. I'm currently going through OT and PT because my present doctor thinks this may have an ocular motor and vestibular component.
I will post a follow up after a few weeks of therapy. Thanks again.
I forget to mention about a test I created for this vision problem. This problem is related with a convergence problem.
For this test, close your left eye and look to a point in your computer, and close the other eye and open the other one, look to the same point again. Most probably if you have left slanted vision most probably your right eye see the point you focused on the computer a little bit upper. Your left eye and right eye would not see probably at the same horizontal line. But the brain always tries to combine two images. Since the images are not at the same horizontal line, when the brain connects this two image you will see slanted. When you look at far distances the convergence is not a problem since you see the point at far distances at the same horizontal line. Therefore when you read computer, or look at your phone the slanted vision is much more dominant.
Just I said in my previosu post, please be patient and give at least three months to your eyes.Find something to do. You will be okay!
Hi,
I have been experiencing the same issues for the last 6 months. In the beginnning it was so worse that I even didnt want to look at computer for two weeks. At those days, even paragraphs were slanting completely to the left or right. I visited so many doctors but none of them explained this situation. My eyes were dilated three times and nothing was found. Suprisingly, I have so called Eeagle Eyes, My vision is 150/100. All of the doctors said you have perfect retina, and your nerves are perfect. But I was asking this question to myself why I am seeing slanted.? Actually I did a lot of research on the net. There a few websites where this problem is reported by different sufferers.
First of all, this problem is (I believe) caused by a severe eye strain which creates strong torsion on the eyes. The sufferes must have experienced a severe eye strain before. The causes might be eye floaters or overuse of computers etc. In my case, eight months ago, suddenly, my eye foaters increased too much. I could not adapt to this situation and I moved my eyes to different directions so fast. I did this around one week. I did not want them in my vision, and movements gave me a temporary relief. But after one week, my eyes were in pain. The pain was too much. I did not know that I was applying to much force on the eye muscles.
If anyone experience this problem please read and apply the followings.
If you have severe eye floaters, that is caused by vitreous degeneration, then the only solution for that is the vitrectomy!. This eye operation will probably bring a lot of different problems. You can only do thhis operation if you really not see anything. Otherwise, do not allow any one to touch your eyes. If you have this tiny specks, just give you some time. You will learn to live with them. You can take physicatric support even for this problem. But please, please plase, do not move your eyes suddenly and do not concentrate on them. Try to Look at green backgound or go out at night.
If you have slanted vision, you need to give some time to your eyes for the relaxation. Your eyes will turn to a relaxed position if you do not tire them. But at first if you apply too much force on your eye mucsles then it will take more time. Right now I only see left slanting letter. I am good now. At least I see, I walk. I read. Even my vsion is slanted a little bit, I learned to cope with them. And I know if I dont concentrate on my floaters, and give some rest to my eyes then it will relax to their original positions. Eye torsion is a very important issue, even you can have douuble vision because of this.
Keep your eyes relaxed, dont look at computer screen to much, and do not concentrate to you floaters. Just live with them. There is no solution other than vitrectomy.
I hope, I helped you!
Hello. I have been having very similar issues to those described here - slanting of vision, lines of text, and horizontal and vertical lines. Sometimes they slant up, sometimes down and sometimes the line goes up and down (like a rollercoaster). It's most noticeable when on the computer or watching television and trying to read text. Did any of you ever reach a resolution to your issues? I've been to a number of specialists and they haven't found anything. And, as you all know, that's somewhat comforting but maddening at the same time because you just want to see as you did before. Thank you for any help you can provide.
Did you get answers I have the same thing slanted vision reading the computer or mobile phone I'm really worried iv got a brain tumor? Please help

Hi there,
I am having very similar issues to those which you describe in the post above. Did you ever receive a diagnosis for this? Where do you currently stand with your problem? Thanks!
Would my eyes look like they are cross eyed, pointing in different directions because they don't look like that?
Tilting probably makes it either worse or the same, but not better. What does this mean?
This could be due to eye muscle imbalance. See if tilting your head to the right or left makes it worse or better. You may need to see strabismus specialist.
