Chalazion

Hi, I have a chalazion on my right eye. Its not big and it does not bother me but i was wondering what is the average "Life span" of a chalazion?  I have had it for about 6 months and it has gotten a lot smaller than what it was before. It still appears to be shrinking. I apply heat with heated up raw rice in a sock and i put erythromycin every night. Will it completely go away on its own?

I was wondering what are the chances of the eyelid becoming droopy after the removal surgery? I have read and heard that the eyelid becomes droopy after the surgery.

Thank you for your response. I was also wondering if there is a certain limit of time that i can apply the erythromycin since it is an antibiotic.

Dear Suzy92,

Usually, a chalazion will get better with the medical treatment you describe.  You might want to increase the frequency to determine whether it will completely resolve.  Sometimes, surgical drainage is needed.
