Cloudy floaters in both eyes only in certain lights - normal??

A strange one I know, but here it is. In certain lights for the last week, more when looking out a bright window from deep inside a room, I have spots of cloudy haze moving across both of my eyes.

I can be quite specific about this.

The hazy spots are just like the spots you see when you wake up and have a bit of muck in your eye. Not in any way blinding but noticable cloudy spots.

Example:
In my classroom (I'm a teacher), looking at the long horizontal windows (view of the sunny lawn outside) from the other side of the room (better if the room is darkened), I can only see the whitish hazey spots when I move my eyes at a medium pace side to side. They float in the opposite direction to my eyes - horizontally and exactly in line with the window. Up and down I don't see it.

If I look up or down, the floaters move to be in line with the window. So just out of my line of sight.

However, I tilted my head sideways and tested again. Now the floaters zip across the same direction as the horizontal window!

I know its hard to say online, but maybe I am just noticing this and always had it. Is it possible that the floaters are just reflections of the light onto the front of my eyes? It appears so.

I've only just thought about this possibility. But that was after I panicked and had an eye exam, photo taken of my retina and blood vessels. MRI. All good.

I want someone else to test it but that sounds stupid.

I'm 35 male and physically very healthy.

It sounds as if you have vitreous floaters, which are normal, especially in nearsighted (myopic) people.  I would see an ophthalmologist (Eye MD), and NOT an optometrist, for a dilated retinal exam with scleral depression.  The great majority of the time, floaters are normal, but a sudden onset or increase could be due to a retinal tear/detachment or an intraocular hemorrhage.

Well it still might be. I had a dilated eye test yesterday. All fine.

It hasn't got any worse, and when I realised it, they were just as big as they are now.

I was looking at the street lights the other night and I could see them when I moved my eyes. I can't imagine they have always been there, but maybe they have!

Will let you know if they get worse. Nothing else I can do.

Thanks for the post.

Tonight I realise I can see them when I read through the computer screen.

So, I've seen an optometrist. He said my vision was very good. He looked deep into my eye and saw nothing. He wanted to dilate the pupil but I couldn't at that time so he looked best he could and saw nothing.

He took a snap shot of my blood vessels and saw nothing. I still have the snaps on CD.

He did say come back and do the dilated pupil test.

Could this disturbance be something to do with the optic nerve? In which case, I guess they wouldn't see anything. I worry about this as I have had a slight headache for 2 weeks which feels like its sitting on the left inner ear canal.

It may be me, but tonight I also noticed the lights appear darker than usual. Light there is a lack of power in them.

Do I go see another optometrist or is there some sort of eye doctor I go see. The trouble is, if its come on so suddenly, I would hate to wait around to see a specialist.

It sounds to me llike you really need to see a specialist.  I had problems with seeing in my classroom when I looked at things when a window was open behind them.  The glare of the window made everything in front of it a dark blob.  My doctor took a closer look, and I had posterior, subcapsular cataracts.  I had them in both eyes.  My left eye cataract grew very rapidly after the doctor discovered it, and I had 20/70 vision at my last appointment.  My right eye was still  20/30.  It happened really fast over about 6 months.  I had the surgery four weeks ago, and so far I am seeing better and better from my left eye.  At two weeks it was back to 20/50.  My right eye is about 20/35 now.  My pressure in my eyes has gone up and down.  It sounds just like what you are going through except  your tests seemed to turn out ok.  Ask them to check your pressure.  I have been doing some research, and some of the symptoms sound like it could turn into Glaucoma.  I would say get a second opinion.

Sorry, forgot to say, in other lights, no lights or outside in the sun I don't see these at all.
