Complications of multifocal lens implants with diabetics

I had bilateral multifocal lens implants in June in June 2007.   Day vision is OK.  My night vision still is not clear.   I still see halos around headlights, etc.    I have had multiple eye drops and have been checked for glaucoma.   This was negative.   My Opthamalogist said because I am a diabet it is taking longer for my brain to accept these lenses.   Do you have any suggestions for this problem or is it just going to take time?    Thank you.

Dear Patty47,

I am not sure of the exact situation; however, adaptation to these lenses usually takes 90 days.  I would speak to your eyeMD and go over with him/her your exact symptoms and ask for all of the options.  Eyedrops for night use can be tried, along with colored contact lenses.  Other options include trying a glass at night with special coatings and a small prescription, if one exists.  Removal of the implants is the last resort and the risks and benefits of this would need to be explained at length.

Different multifocal lenses have different characteristics, and some are well-known to have more issues with glare than others. When asking a question like this, you will get more specific answers if you mention what brand/model of lens  you have.

Thank you for your information.    I appreciate your research.   Unfortunately it was not the answer I was looking for.   I think I will obtain a second opinion.     Thank you again.
