Confused about whats going on-

My left eye was bothering me for about two weeks, off and on.  I thought I had a simple eye infection and used previously Rx'd drops to self treat it ( I know, I know ), then it became very apparent when I could not focus my eyes while driving that something was wrong.  I saw my Doctor he put numbing drops in my eyes and did a slit light test, then prescribed me acular and vigamox, directed me to two different OTC drops ( one which is almost gel like ).  Told me that I had a cut with scar tissue and that it would be a long and painful healing process.  I was told not be in the wind or under a fan, always have on sun glasses when outside, and keep light dim while inside.  He said it would probably take eight to twelve weeks to heal.  Is there any way you can clarify what is wrong with my eye and why it will take so long to heal (if the current method works).  I fell asleep with my contacts in one night,j ust one single night.

Thank you for your response.  Today my eye was bothering me much much much MUCH more so I went back for another appointment. I saw a different Doctor this time.  He said my eye had gotten worse, that I now have an ulcer.  He Rx'd me ciloxan ointment for right before bed time, and Polymyxin B with instructions to alternate that antibiotic drop with the Vigamox every half hour and cut off the Acular unless I am in increasing pain and also to use lubercating drops as needed.  He requested that I come back for a follow up within 24 hours.  He said that the ulcer was in the center of my eye.

I'm completely confused about your description.  Please call your doctor and find out what the actual diagnosis is.  Acular helps inflammation, but may slow healing so should be used with caution.  Vigamox should only be used as long as it is needed.  I suspect you are just in the initial stages of treatment and things will be modified carefully every week or so.  That is the way I usually do it.  I'm sorry, it appears you have a significant area of damage to the cornea.  Make sure you are seeing a well qualified board-certified ophthalmologist and follow the instructions properly.
