Contact lenses for post cataract surgery

I had both eyes done for cataracts (1 month ago for one eye, 1.5 weeks for the other) and had toric IOL.  I have not experience any real problems post surgery. My far sight is 20/20 and I could not be happier, but I have hobbies that require close up work and am also very active outdoors with hiking, etc. I want to eventually get contacts for close and intermediate vision since glasses can be a real pain, and to help with depth perception.  I notice that if I scan about quickly it sometimes feels a bit disorienting, this could prove dangerous on the trails. Perhaps I need more time to adjust to these "new" eyes, but what can I expect with contacts, and how soon can soft contacts be worn after surgery? Thanks.

There are many different bifocal/multifocal contact lens designs that are currently available.  Wearing one contact lens for near/intermediate vision (monovision) is another possibility.  Your best bet would be to see an optometrist who stocks a variety of lenses, so that you can try some out in the office.  You could probably schedule your appointment today; call your surgeon's office and ask if that's okay.
