Corneal Scarring

Hi there. I developed a corneal ulcer due to extended wear contact lenses. After a week, it cleared up but the ophthalmologist says the scar that it left could be permanent. She recommended staying off contact lenses for a couple of weeks; but was unable to say whether or not it would be best never to wear them again. She did suggest daily wear lenses. What should I do? Ideally I'd never wear lenses again but this is just not practical for me. Should I buy daily lenses and wear sparingly? Or consider LASIK?

You should do what your ophthalmologist says. Long term there is less risk and less expense with lasik surgery than wearing contacts the rest of your life

Personally, I got lenses implanted (I had an RLE).  The thought of lasik always scared me.  They can remove phakic lenses, and exchange IOL's, but once part of your cornea is removed, it's gone for good.  Not to mention cutting the nerves for your tears and risking they don't grow back.  Just a thought for you to think about..... :).  PS, I was a glasses hater also, except for my fashion sunglass collection I now have!

Aw I hate glasses! I wear them a lot, but I rely on lenses for sports, and to look presentable; and so that I can wear sunglasses... wouldn't be keen on prescription sunglasses because you can't just leave them on all the time! I would definitely stick to lenses if I knew it would be low risk - daily lenses seem very low risk from what I'm hearing.

Or you could wear glasses? They would be cute on you!
I can no longer wear my contact lenses either because I got a corneal ulcer. So I am wearing glasses until I have saved up enough to have the Lasik surgery.
