Development of stereo vision in children after 6 years

I need this for my nephew.
He wasn't taken to screening before and now he's 6.
It turned out one of his eyes has worse astigmatism but has no amblyopia.
However, he got a polarised test too and instead of the combined picture he only sees one of them so he has a dominant eye.
I would like to know if it is possible for a 6 y/o with full correction to learn stereo vision (so use his eyes together, unsure of the medical term).
Thanks.

Short answer is no. By age six true depth perception (as tested by the stereo testing) is fully developed. If not normal will not be normal. This does not mean that the person will not be a good athlete or driver.  He should have been tested with glasses on to correct his astigmatism. If not the test may not be accurate.

Thank you for the answer. I'm more concerned with reading. Do you think this will cause any issues there?
Reading is a separate skill.  Children with severe amblyopia in one eye but one good eye read just fine. Read skills are more learning skills and ability rather than eye problem.  So not more or less likely to have reading problems than others in the class.
