Dear ramus,
I would recommend that you go back to the eye clinic as it sounds as if you have double vision when both eyes are open. You may have a disturbance of the motility of the eyes which may be cause by a nerve.

oops.. close your good eye and when you open it you see double.. forget the hand over the eye..this is the good eye compensating for your bad eye looking down...
Ramus.. Third nerve eye palsy.. double vision and head eye pain.. I have this in my right eye and it is exactly what you are describing.. if I close one eye vision is normal.. my right eye is always looking down and when i force it to look straight my left eye looks up causeing double vision..sometimes extreme pain in the eye and head.. had it for 7 months now.. go to opthamologist for eye test.. they can explain this freaky eye palsy.. usually recovery is within 6 weeks.. happens more often to diabetics..Basically your right eye is having problem looking straight so when you cover your good eye with your hand and release your hand after a few seconds it will look up compensating for the bad eye looking down.. confusing at best Good luck
