Esotropia

i have been having fever for the last five to six days.  initially, it was accompanied with chills, rigors, vomiting immediately after a meal, and weakness.  i had been seen by a physician who suspected UTI and gave me some antibiotics and paracetamol.  But for the last two to three days, i have been experiencing double vision and a day ago my eyes turned inward, esotropia.  the same physician told me it was related to the fever and that in some cases the fever might weaken the muscles of the eye which leads to strabismus.  he also assured me there was nothing to worry about and it is basically temporary.  so, i would like to know if it is just weakness related or if it is sign of some intracranial abnormality.

I would be extremely concerned about this and it's more likely that this is due to your illness. Febrile illnesses be caused by serious neurological problems like enchephalitis, menegitis, severe sinusitis also ear infections can damage the 6th cranial nerve causing horizontal vision at distance but not at near.  I would suggest you go to the best fully equiped emergency room and/or see if you can see a neurologist as soon as possible. Again "doubling is troubling". Be sure you keep someone with you as you should not be alone.
