Having cataract surgery soon

Should I find out the kind of lens that the Dr. will be putting in? I know it won't be a Crystalens but are there different brands etc. and is that something I should know?  My Dr. also said, once the lens is in it's in, no replacing it, like say if Chrystalens comes out with a lens to correct or help astigmatism.  I feel as if I haven't been given much info but I know this is a reputable Dr. I went in three weeks ago and was told to stop wearing my contacts for three weeks so my eyes could return to normal, and then I went in today and they did two tests and surgery is now scheduled. That's it? They have all the info they need? I do have a brain tumor, meningioma, under 3cm. I had SRS for it, one of my main symptoms besides headache were visual disturbances, they were called, ocular migraines, or migraine with aura, but to me they relate directly to my tumor which is on the sagittal sinus in the posterior third in the parietal lobe, I think the ocular events have everything to do with blood flow, any thoughts on this?  I am very excited to see better than I ever have, I will be able to still wear contacts too right? Thanks for any info.

You should call and schedule another appointment with the surgeon to discuss your lens options and have him/her explain to you what the plan is in terms of the lens.  You need to have this discussion beforehand so there are no questions afterwards when it is too late.  You need to know if they will be aiming for distance or near correction or if they will be using a toric lens to correct astigmatism vs. a regular monofocal lens.  You should also know what activities may require glasses after the surgery as some prefer to see far withot glasses and use reading glasses for reading while others read so much they prefer the reverse.  You need to be informed before the surgery so you could add your two cents.

Thank you so much for your input, I emailed my Dr. and said that since I would like good distance vision and that since I wore toric contacts perhaps I should have a toric intraocular lens, I will have to pay more out of pocket for it, but having been so nearsighted my entire life I would like the best vision possible, my right eye is being done on the 11th, wish me luck!!  Thanks again.  Sue
