Eye scars

I have seen a couple of eye doctors recently and they both mentioned that I have a scar in both eyes and inquired whether I knew what caused them. (Last time I saw an eye doctor was in August 2007 and he did not mention any scars).

However, I have no idea what may have caused them and I have told them so. The last doctor said I should have my eyes checked and if the scar becomes larger/different in some way, he will send me to a cornea specialist. They also dilated my pupils to examine the back of my eye and said they did not find anything wrong.

I would like to know if anyone is able to let me know what could cause scarring in the eyes, as I haven't had any injuries or cold sores/conjunctivitis and I am quite concerned about this.

Thank you in advance,

A.G.

That's a very vague questions, and of course you know I would need to actually see the scars.  Here are some possibilities off the top of my head:  severe dry eyes, eyelashes scratching eyes, map dot fingerprint dystrophy, herpes simplex keratitis, herpes zoster keratitis, staph marginal disease, atopic keratoconjunctivitis, chemical burn, foreign body injury, corneal ulcer, and on and on.......
If  you and your doctor have not been able figure it out I would  put the past behind you and focus on how you can best keep the eyes healthy and seeing well for many years to come.
