Film over eyes, but also neck and jaw pain.

My mother has been experiencing rather odd sensations for the last 3 weeks.  She sees a film over her eyes lasting a second or two, blurring in her left eye, accompanied by some discomfort/sensations above and below her eyes, the back of her neck and head.  She also feels some sensations in her jaw.  This happens, irregularly, but when she makes slight head movements right, left or down.  None of this occurs if her eyes are shut!

TIAs have been ruled out by her cardiologist.  She does have scoliosis, osteoporosis and stenosis of her lower spine.  I can't figure out if it could be her neck movements that are causing her eyes to react this way or vice versa.

Tomorrow, we have an appointment with her eye doctor.

Thank you for commenting Dr. Hagan.  My mother's eye doctor said that her eyes were fine.  He suspects that it could be vascular, but also mentioned neurological and is setting up an appointment with a opthamalic neurologist for her.

He did prescribe a blood test today.  He may have referred it is as a SED test and mentioned something about proteins.  The results from the blood test will be back on Monday.

This seems difficult to diagnose.  In the meantime, she is drinking fluids with electrolytes as her primary care physician said she was dehydrated.

Be sure temporal arteritis (also known as Giant Cell Arteritis) has been ruled out with two tests: 1. sedimentation rate and 2. C-reactive protein.  Ask the Eye MD to consider this and also check with her MDs to see if these two tests done.
