Many patients notice a flickering light as you mention under low light conditions. It is usually harmless.
I've been fighting a similar condition in one eye, for nearly 3 years. The flickering, in my case, is seen when that eye is closed, and is then shown as a scotoma (spot) that moves when the eye is open. Countless tests by retina people, neuroophthalmologists, and by glaucoma people have failed to uncover the reason. ERG and mERG were suggested for tessting, but I have an express shunt in that eye and the labs would not test me, so I am still without diagnosis. Eye is getting blurrier by the day, and more difficult for both eyes to work together due to the flickering and blurring. .
Any suggestions for diagnosiing the problem from Dr. Oyakawa? I'm worried and frusttated by the increasing flickering and blurriness. Russell903
This is usually starburst acitivty originating from the central nervous system. It is the background activity of the visual system, if you like. If you pay close enough attention, it can end up looking light a but like a light show in the dark with your eyes closed.
