I would chose Stanford. No one can give you "odds" on success/'failure/complications without looking in your eye.

I have been stalling about another vitrectomy. (macular hole) Due to spinal NHL, and hip fracture, and another totally different cancer with a missing lung, it is difficult to do the face down. I was not even told about doing that after the first surgery.. Just laying on my side. First surgery w/bubble was failure, as you know.
I am now considering the silicone oil. I am getting various opinions. I am trying to find out who does them around here. I talked to my oncologist at Stanford and wants he me to take care of this. At Stanford or San Francisco. I keep wondering which would be better. Apparently, no doctor will give me a direct answer to anything. No one will say well, so and so does this, etc. What are the chances of failure a second time? No answers to this as well. I know it is hard for anyone to say, but just something. Thanks.
Every operation carries some risk and your surgery will be more complicated. Be sure that your retina surgeon is okay with the cataract removal. Some retina surgeons do cataract surgery. It sounds like they are recommending a vitrectomy to remove the debris.
If you are comfortable with the recommendations, understand the risks then proceed. If you are uncertain get a second opinion from another retina surgeon. Find one at www.aao.org
