Has anyone experience repeated retinal detachment after several vitrectomies?

I've had 3 surgeries within 3 months for detached retina. Even though each time I've had the long lasting gas bubble and have followed the 7 day face down follow-up, I never quite make it past the one month mark before symptoms recur and they want to do surgery again.  Very discouraged and would like to hear from anyone why this might be happening, the likelihood of it happening, and what can be done to stop it. I can't take much more.

One more thought - have you had a scleral buckle? That's even less fun than the vitrectomy alone, but as I understand it is a further assurance against future problems.

complex retinal detachments are an ordeal that often involves multiple surgeries and no infrequently does not restore good vision. Inherent is any discussion is the often forgotten importance of protecting the remaining "good" eye from disease and injury.

I had two vitrectomies in my left eye, but the second one was for an epiretinal membrane.  I've has multiple tears in my right eye but only laser surgery.

I empathize strongly with your frustration.  The only thing I can way is, hopefully you'll get there. You're fighting to save your vision.  If you're successful the pain from the surgeries will one day be just a memory.

Best of luck.
