why is my eye still irritated after healing from burst blood vessel?

I had a burst blood vessel in my eye earlier this year. It took a long time for the blood to clear, about a month and a half. During that time I often felt irritation in the eye, as if there were sand grains in my eye - the irritation wasn't constant but came and went. It has been about a month now and so far as I can see the blood has totally cleared (unless there are still areas behind my eye I can't see), but this "sand grain" feeling which started with the burst blood vessel keeps returning. It seems especially prone to return when the air is dry, and my eye now seems more sensitive to dryness, so that I've had to start running a humidifier all the time (the only thing that seems to prevent the irritation). I am wondering if somehow the burst blood vessel could have damaged  something in my eye that is causing the continued feeling of irritation, or if my eye may actually just be more sensitive now because it is still be healing though the blood has cleared and this irritation will eventually resolve?

You need to see an Eye MD ophthalmologist to look for a cause and have a basic eye exam. It is more likely that you have something like ocular surface disease (Dry eyes) that caused the subconjunctival hemorrhage than the hemorrhage causing the problem primarily. See an Eye MD soon.
