Bergmeister's Papilla

I've known for several years that I have a Bergmeister's Papilla in my right eye.   It was explained to me early on that it's a benign thing and causes no problem  Everything I've read about it on the Internet confirms that, but I haven't read any really in-depth medical articles on the subject.

At the same time, I've had "floaters" for many years, and thought I had a grasp on what was causing the spots and shadows I try to ignore in my right eye.

I just recently changed optometrists for the first time in well over a decade, and mentioned to her in my exam that my floaters seem to be getting worse.  I have a more noticeable and larger string of spots then I've ever had before.  She made reference to the fact that my BP is sitting very close to my optic nerve, so that's not surprising.  I specifically asked if I what I am seeing is my BP, and she said something like "Quite possibly."

I was kind of shocked.   I've not read anything to suggest that the BP could be impacting my vision in any way.   I'm not concerned about it really, but I'd like to know, and would also like to know if that is the case, can it worsen with age?

Thanks for any insight.

Jane, age 50

Thank you very much for the response and advice.  My BP being the cause of this just didn't sound right based on everything I've read.

You need to go see a retina specialist or at least an ophthlamologist/eye MD.  What you are seeing is an increase in floaters which could be related to a natural process called posterior vitreous detachment and could put you at risk for a retinal detachment.  You need a very good dilated exam.
Your symptoms are not from a BP.
