I keep getting a flash in the side of my right eye.

I'm 18 and nearsighted. For the past three days I've been getting a flash in the side of my right eye, accompanied by some discomfort and a small dot of what looks like something you would see during a migraine. I went to the eye doctor for a checkup but there were no tears in my eyes. I thought maybe it could be related to the neck pain I've been feeling since I've worked my neck out, or maybe anxiety. I don't know though. It has kept me up at night because I worry it could be serious. Hopefully I can get some answers. Thanks.

It is important to know what kind of 'eye doctor' you saw. Your symptoms require an examination by an Eye MD ophthalmologist to include dilating pupils and a careful exam of peripheral retina and probably a macular OCT. If you did NOT have this type of exam you need to arrange ASAP  Neck pain would not cause this.

I had my pupils dilated there when the doctor checked. That was how he came to the conclusion.
Was the "eye doctor" and EYE MD ophthalmologist or a non-MD optometrist?
