I see a purple spot after blinking

Hello, I am a 53 year old male. Recently I noticed that after blinking my left eye, I see a light purple crescent shape just above whatever I am looking at. I only see this when looking at light colored fields, like a white computer screen or the sky. I only see the crescent for a second, or less, after blinking.

I have had minor symptoms of vitreal detachment for several years and my near and far vision in my left eye has deteriorated a lot. I seem to need new glasses at least once a year. I am making an appointment with my opthamologist tomorrow, but I would appreciate any opinion.

Dear Janos,

I would recommend that you determine whether this spot occurs while your eyes are closed or  open, and whether this is in one eye or both.  Seek the care of an eyeMD to determine the cause.
