If both parents have myopia, does their kid will inherit myopia at child age?

Both me and my wife have myopia around -6D. Our parents dont have myopia.

We got myopia in late teens because of too much study we believe.

we are planning to have kid soon.

We are concerned if our kid(s) will develop myopia as a child and may not enjoy sports and freedom as kids without myopia.

Could you please let us know how we can improve the chances that our kid doesn't suffer from myopia until at least late teens?

Their is a world wide epidemic of myopia especially in Asia due to proliferation of near work: computers, iPhones, video-games, iPads and of course reading.  For children the risk of developing myopia is lessened by more than an hour of outdoor activities per day.  You can do internet search on this.  While there is much research going on into how to prevent or temper-slow myopia nothing certain exists at present.

Go ahead and have your family and have the child spend a lot of time outdoors playing.

Thanks doctor. Will the kid inherit the myopic genes from parents as both the parents developed myopia in their teen age due to near work?
You can develop myopia even if you do not do much near work. The genetics are complicated and poorly understood.  Your child will have a much higher risk than normal of being myopia but when he/she will develop it or how myopic cannot be predicted. I'm myopia but no one else in my family is. (-2.50)
Thanks doctor
Best of luck
