Is Diplopia normal after scleral buckle surgery for retina detachment?

I had a scleral buckle surgery for retina detachment in my right eye and its more than 3 weeks now. I am having double vision now. My right eye number is -7 now after surgery and left eye(non-operated) number is -4. Initially I thought the double vision is due to change in number of my operated eye and the difference in the number of both the eyes. But when doctor checked after using powered lenses in both the eyes, still I am having double vision.Has anyone else faced this problem? Is it going to improve? How it can be corrected if it will remain like this?

I'd like to inject some optimism as a patient who had double vision after a vit-buckle repair for RD. After months of stumbling around--going down stairs was the worst!--I saw a strabismus doctor who prescribed a stick-on Fresnel prism (you put it on eyeglasses). Immense relief! Months later I got glasses with the prism ground in. Ultimately I chose to have strabismus surgery, which was successful in relieving the double vision.

Double vision is common after RD surgery especially if a scleral buckle was applied. Sometimes it temporary but often permanent. You would need to get the retina fixed and be sure it doesn't need more surgery.  To use your eyes together you likely will need a contact lens on the RE or lasik surgery on one or both eyes to balance out the refractive error.  If you still have double vision in 3-4 months you may need to see an eye MD that specializes in strabismus (eye muscle problems) they are often called pediatric ophthalmologists but most do adults also. Droopy eyelid (ptosis) is also common.  There are posts on this website about this problem.
