Is Nearsightedness after cataract surgery 1 week post-op normal?

I had cataract surgery in my left eye a week ago.  My cataract was extremely dense. Doctor said a 9/10 scale.  He actually tested a new (latest model) machine for the phacoemulsification because he anticipated difficulty in cutting up the old lens.  He said everything went great and the new machine cut the lens like butter.  At my 24 hour post-op appointment he said I had a lot of swelling.  Which is to be expected with the density of the cataract.  I assume he’s referring to swelling in the anterior segment.  Now at one week my vision has improved but I seem to be focusing at 16-18 inches.  I have a monofocal lens that is supposed to be set for distance.  Would this be something that would still be attributed to swelling and making the overall length of the eye different until the swelling goes down more?  If so then I’m content to just wait it out and see where the vision ends up. I have a history of retinal detachment and repair with vitrectomy, so I’m hoping it’s not swelling in the retina (retinal edema) or something serious like that.  Thanks for your help.

Swelling of the cornea makes the eye more myopic (nearsighted)  as the swelling goes down that should decrease. Probably 6 weeks before things stable.
