Is it normal for eye to still be red & inflamed 4 weeks after macular hole surgery?

I am 4 weeks out from macular hole, membrane peeling and vitrectomy surgery.  My surgical eye is still very red and inflammed.  I am still on one drop of prednisone eye drops and one drop of atropine a day.  The gas bubble is dissolving and I have vision above it, albeit cloudy and a little distorted.  I told the surgeon at my 1 week check up that my surgical eye was itchy and she said that was normal and to use OTC comfort drops in that eye to soothe it.  Before surgery, I had told the surgeon that I was allergic to thimerosal and could not have that in my eye drops. Could I also be allergic to the preservative in the prednisone and atropine?  Or is it normal to still have a red and inflamed eye 4 weeks after surgery?  It looks almost as bad today as it did on the day of surgery.  I have many allergies, food and medicinal (antibiotics) included.

These are monster operations, and each unique and impossible to generalize like cataract surgery. So I cannot give you any reassurance.  Look on the PF and atropine bottle. Generally thimerosal is not used in those as preservative.
