Is it possible that my vision can improve after vitrectomy?

I had vitrectomy for a macular hole five weeks ago.  I am/was quite nearsighted, but over the last few days, my vision in the surgical eye is so much better my corrective lens is not needed. I anticipated a change to my prescription lenses, but is this what to expect as a final result, or will it get worse again?

That's a great outcome thus far @Sarge99. As Dr. Hagan posted, be on the lookout for cataract development in your surgical eye. I had to address my own cataract following a vitrectomy by the 18-month end of the range that he indicated. It's probable, though not absolutely certain, that a specialist other than your retinal specialist will perform the cataract procedure if you do develop one.

Hi Sarge:  Use the search feature and archives and read the many helpful posts and discussions about recovery after macular hole surgery/ERM peel, vitrectomies, etc.  The common denominator is these surgeries are very unique and individual and not possible to generalize about them. Some people their vision does not get better or even gets worse while other make a complete recovery. Most do not recovery 20/20 and have subnormal vision and some distortion. Also if you have your natural lens vitrectomy causes cataracts and highly likely over the next 6-18 months you will develop progressive cataract in that eye.
