Only a tiny hole is put in the opaque capsular membrane so that the membrane continues to hold the IOL in place. Leak of vitreous into the anterior chamber is relatively rare. When it does happen its not usually a big problem.
I had cataract surgery on April 12th. Before the surgery I only had problems driving at night . Now it's worst. They did the dropless surgery and said I didn't need additional drops . After 3 weeks my eyes got infected. I was put on steroid and anti inflammatory drops . I'm now seeing a retina specialist because I don't trust this surgeon anymore . Today my eye is throbbing and is really red . I'm have an appointment this weekend for the yag laser and I'm wondering if it would be safe to have it done this weekend . Please help . Sherry
It is me again . Is it possible that the PCO progressively still worsen by now ? Or the PCO was there to start and my brain is playing tricks on me
Surgery one eye Sept. 11 second one Oct. 14 without complication.
Will have YAG in in 3 weeks.
I think I will stop looking on line for more about this and wait for it to be all done. This is almost magic , I remember an old aunt in the 50's having cataract surgery, the poor thing was in bed for a long time, almost died of lung clot..
Thank you very much
Hole is cut, capsule retracts leaving a usually round or rectangular opening. No scraping involved with Yag. The eximer laser might be described as scraping or reshaping tissue. That is used for LASIK surgery on cornea.

I read somewhere that there is a hole made by the laser and an other place that the capsule is layered scraped by laser. Can you enlight me here.
Thank you for your reply.
The IOL is held in place by the struts (haptics) on either side of the center optical part. These are held by the periphery of the capsular bag and by adhesions that form after the surgery.
9 weeks post surgery there is generally low risk of decentration or moving.
With a small to medium size capsulotomy opening the risk is low also of vitreous coming around the IOL into the anterior chamber. The back surface of the IOL and the unopened capsule hold it back

P.S. Is it a possibility that the IOL slip inside the eye The implant was done 5 weeks ago and the YAG will be in 4 weeks
