Lattice degeneration & preventative laser

Hi. I'm about to undergo preventative laser surgery to lesion the area where the lattice degeneration has occurred.

Just wishing to know whether the laser will permanently damage my vision, cause problems with night vision, blurry vision, or any other problems? What can I expect immediately after the surgery? Will it be painful?

Malaysia is a haven for tasty food, but not necessarily healthy. Perhaps it's worth a visit someday :)

Thanks for all your posts on lattice degeneration lasering. I'm going for mine tomorrow - thing is the doctor says he's gut feeling is i should probably get it. but he emphasized research isn't certain whether it will do anything...least i want to happen is to go in to do something unnecessary to my body.

You can't prevent holes from developing. Lattice is found in 6-8% of the population, higher in myopes, I have lattice. Most cases don't require treatment.

Supplements will not prevent lattice but can help with macular degeneration

By the way my next door neighbor in Kansas City is from Malaysia and I have seen many pictures of your beautiful country and she regularly cooks us excellent Malaysian food.

Hi Doc,
I have yet to experience floaters, gray curtain or spots, but my dilated eye have been checked and shows some symptoms of peripheral retinal degeneration.

How can I, if possible, to prevent holes from forming? Is this inevitable or maybe supplements can help? I'm only turning 25, with -6.25D on both eyes and have been using the computer a lot for the past 13 years up till now.

I'll appreciate the advice.

I just had laser surgery yesterday to repair a peripheral retinal tear (horseshoe) in my right eye and a hole in the left eye.  It didn't hurt but it's very hard to stay still and there will be a bright flashing light.  The eye-drops before the procedure burn and your eyes will be very sensitive to light for about two hours after it's done.

At this time I don't have any complications. I return for a exam in one week.

All operations involve risks. The risks are low but do include reduced vision or that a RD could still occur. Suggesting laser means your surgeon feels the risk of RD is higher than riks of laser. You can use search feature and read other disscussions. Usually its not painful
