Why is my quality of vision in the old prescription better than the new?

My new prescription is:

OD SP -2.50  Cyl -2.25 Axis 179
OS SP -1.75  Cyl -2.75 Axis 170

My old and prefered prescription is:

OD SP -2.25 Cyl -2.25 Axis 004

OS SP -1.50 Cyl -2.25 Axis 179 VPrism 0.50BD

Both of these were done by two different doctors. Should I reconsider my choice of current doctor?

Those two RXs are very similar. The first number "Sphere" is only 0.25 diopter difference  the astigmatism part cylinder and axis    RE sphere same axis is only 5 degree difference (axis only goes to 180 degree then goes 001    LE is 9 degree difference.   Glasses testing is subjective with you making the choices not the technician or doctor.   I can't tell you which is clearest or most comfortable.  Many people would not be able to tell difference some would find one much better than the other.
