Modified Mono-vision Technique

I understand that if I use the Tecnis monofocal aspheric IOL I will most likely use a modified mono-vision technique and need to wear progressive bifocals after the surgery.

Would users of this technique please share their experiences with me. Are you satisfied with that approach and would you do it again? Do you wear glasses 100% of the time? If not, then when? What can you see without glasses and when do you need glasses?

Thanks.

Mike

Hi Mike,
Yes the lens can be exchaged for different power and so i would get desired result.....would i do this??? not in a million years...having any type of surgery is risky and me being -20...even more so...so i am fine with the blended vision i now have.
i could have minor Lazer surgery and correct...again ...i am not that concerned and therefore dont need to risk operation...

All i guess you can ask surgeon.... is how accurate are his lens power calculations.... to acheive the prescription you require....past patients sucess rate is all you can go by.

This calculation is worked out ...using biometric system.
This is never 100% accurate and it all comes down to surgeon skills and ...yes ....some luck....

Acceptable answer.....hmmm...that is difficult ...you just to understand his level of ability  and competance....and again ...mainly how much experience....and past success rate.

Also some surgeons are more proficient with ceartain lenses....therefore if they favour alcon or tecnis...etc whilst both are equally as good ...his preference will be best choice...as he may be able to acheive more accurate calculations.

One of my friend's eyes is set for distance and the other for intermediate vision.  (That's all he knows.)  He doesn't need glasses for driving or the computer.  The only glasses he ever wears are drugstore readers, and he only needs those for small print.  He is extremely pleased with his new vision.

JodieJ,

To what was each eye corrected in your friend's eye?

indi1664,

Can they use laser to adjust your positive eye? Can that lens be replaced with one that will result in a negative result? You say, "also ask surgeon how accurate his biometric calculations". Exactly what is an acceptable answer? What action should I take on the basis of that response?

Thank you all for your sharing your experiences.

Mike

Of course we could all use eye drops and not worry about surgery.

Hi,
I was -20 bith eyes till few weeks back...now...I had my 1st eye corrected (Lens Exchange)...The surgeon aimed for -0.5 and ended up +0.75...I was dissapointed...i lost all my closeup vision ...couldnt see watch atall...or anything closeup clearly..... without readers....
so felt doomed to permanent glasses....
Than 2 weeks ago i had my 2nd eye operated and -20...to I am guessing -1 to -1.25..(not tested yet )...VERY happy with outcome (calculation was for -2) ...whilst the ideal blended vision..is ..depending on requirement...-0.25 and -1.25 or -0.5 and -1.5....thes scenarios will give you very good all round vision and you will hardly need glasses accept for driving.....reading I think would be fine ..unless you required reading of very tiny writing...

in my case because of my 1st eye having...cyl and the ' +' prescription ...i need readers for PC work and reading....the rgt eye ...I can read and see close up so only will need correction for driving....but very little...the best thing is when I wake up ...i  can see quite clearly ....comb my hair ...shaving...etc....all without glasses...

Would i do it again....yes but YOU MUST AVOID GETTING  A POSITIVE PRESCRITION...now in my case the error level when calculating powers...is quite high and therefore ...i sholud really be grateful ..even if i did end up with positive 1st eye....

Overall if you get the blended vision correct ...you will be very happy...that is the key...

Dr Hagan and others have Excellent posts on blended vision ...have a read...also ask surgeon how accurate his biometric calculations.

I have to say my vsion even with minor error ...is better and I would gladly have accepted the same outcome if promised before surgery....

wish you well and also have a look at my other posts ..my replies to others and the Excellent replies to me...from the doctors and others...hope it helps

My friend who has this type of correction wears drugstore readers only occasionally.  He was previously quite farsighted, and he believes his new vision is the best he's ever had.
