No more macular edema!

Here my background. In 2006 I had a RD fixed w a Ackerman buckle. I developed a macular picker aka epirerinal membrane. I have been using prolenza then brown site for macular edema. I had cataract surgery in 2017. Successful!! June 2021 retina surgeon said the macular edema is gone and there’s no sign of fluid. Good thing!!! I’m guessing my crystal clear vision is because of that. I’ve never had such clear vision ever.
My question is…when I cast my vision out while driving or whatever it’s a tad fuzzy way out. Can it be because my vision is now so clear that I am seeing symptoms of the pucker? I have never had crystal clear vision like this before in my life. (Between the retinal detachment and the cataract vision was always off)
So I don’t know how I’m supposed to see. Like what’s the normal persons vision like?
I just recently saw my ophthalmologist and everything was fine. I go back to my retinal surgeon September 22. I saw 20/20-3 last visit.

Interesting. After my cataract surgery I still saw halos around lights. Dr then confirmed it was the astigamatism.
I’ve never seen normally. 2006 after my scleral buckle things took time. And then 2017 w the cataract removal it was much better. Took years for the edema to clear up and now I’m clear aside from floaters that have been there since 2006. It’s a different view seeing clear and like you said a slight distortion I guess is normal with the ERM.

May I also mention I have an astigmatism. I can read wonderfully with reading glasses of course. I just never saw like this. So clear. So I wondered if the ‘pucker would be ‘seen’ more being that everything else is clear.
Thank you as always for responding.

Astigmatism just means your cornea is aspherical. If 'regular' astigmatism it can be corrected with glasses.  In patients with huge cataracts, especially those we have not followed in our clinic the retina often has problems that the person only notices after the cataract is removed (ERM, macular degeneration are the most common).  Human nature being what it is, they often blame the cataract surgeon. that is why we do macular and nerve fiber layer OCTS on all our patients before surgery.

For having those problems you sound as though you have had a fabulous result. With a RD and ERM it would be expected that even with glasses your vision might be subnormal and somewhat distorted.  The fact that your vision is so much better after cataract surgery indicates that prior to that surgery most of the blurr was cataract and not due to RD or ERM.
