Only myopia?

Hello,

I’m 33 years old and I’m having some problems in my distance vision.

Facts:
- Since 2008 I have (-1 diopter) myopia in both eyes;
- Usually I never needed to use glasses;
- Recently, in some days, I feel  fatigue in my eyes (sore eyes and ardour);
- Recently I fell that I’m seeing worst at distance. Now I need glasses to see TV, to drive and in overcast days;
- Without glasses I also see worst at distance through my right eye;
- In sunny days I see perfectly without glasses and the sun relax my eyes;

Well, last month I went to the ophthalmologist and he said that my myopia is the same (-1 diopter) and equal in both eyes. He didn’t have any explanation to my symptoms and only recommended to use the glasses.

My question is:
if I have the same myopia why I feel that I see worst at distance (now I need to put the glasses) and why I see worst through the right eye? Could I have any other problem? Should I request additional eye examinations?

Thank you very much.
(and sorry my bad English)

Unusual but possible.  Again, as long as you see well with the glasses don't worry about it.

If you see well with the glasses, you don't need to adjust them.  Just get used to needing to wear them more regularly.

As Dr. Visoghi mentioned, you may have developed some astigmatism in addition to your mild myopia (I've had both for years).  That can make your vision more blurry even if your distance prescription hasn't changed.  Mild astigmatism might not be apparent when looking at a standard eye chart (Snellen chart) because the letters or numbers contrast well with the background, but it may be causing you some problems in dim light.

If you google, or image google, astigmatism, you should be able to find simple tests for determining if you have it or not.  You simply look at a sereis of parallel lines going in different directions.  If some of the line sets seem clearer than others, it's an indication of astigmatism.  Just a thought

I'm not sure why.  It makes sense that you can't see at distance well if you have myopia without glasses.  As long as you could see well with the glasses, you should be OK.  You may also have a touch of astigmatism if you feel one eye is worse than the other.  If you have any doubts, you could have a complete eye exam with an ophthalmologist to make sure all is OK.

Thank you Doctor. I'm more tranquil with your opinion.

I already thought that my worse vision in the right eye could be only due to a little bit more myopia (such as -1 in left eye and -1,1 in right eye) and because diopters are usually measured in steps of 0,25 that its not detected...

Only an update of my situation:

Because some internet tests indicate that I've astigmatism, I went to other ophthalmologist and the Doctor said that I don't have astigmatism in any eye and that the myopia is the same (-1).

The Doctor said that my general perception of worse vision, and the worse vision of right eye, is due to ocular fatigue and the natural (due to age) loss of ability of ocular muscles to adapt to my myopia.

I never heard of that. So I would like to hear your opinion about this: It is normal that a person with a stable myopia, with the burden of the years, need to wear glasses to do some activities (because feel that see worse at distance), even if the myopia is the same?

I already saw lined squares and effectively I see diagonal lines grey through my right eye.

It seems that now I discovered my "problem"...

But I see perfectly through my "myopia glasses". Should I "correct" them?

Thanks everyone!

Thank you very much Cwatt1.

If I can, I'll do that astigmatism tests that you suggest. I'll say something soon.

Thanks.

where i said "And now I need to wear and feel that I see worse" I wanted to say that "And now I need to wear and bacause I feel that I see worse (without glasses)"

Thank you Doctor.

My doubt arise because in past (with the same myopia) I didn't feel the need to wear the glasses in some activities. And now I need to wear and feel that I see worse.

But thanks again and I'll follow your advices.
Best regards.
