Hi
I did not have my operations done in USA, it was confirmed by another doctor at another hospital that my optic nerve had been damaged after my vitreo retinal/vitrectomy operation. Previous to that I had a sclerle buckle and then 2 gas bubbles inserted into my eye and I had 20/20 vision before all these ops. It was also confirmed that my macula was never damaged or touched by the retina detachment.
Sorry $ was meant to be 4 (hit shift key by mistake.)

Damage could be due to multiple things. If you have truly been through 4 retinal detachment surgeries - then your eye has been through a tremendous amount of stress. Rises in ocular pressure are not uncommon after vitrectomy or gas/fluid exchange - and could lead to some stress on optic nerve. This is just one possibility. Now again if you have had 4 surgeries your chances of having much useful vision are going to be kind of low. I also don't know how you can so confidently blame all your central vision loss of optic nerve damage. Epiretinal membrane, macular edema, and just ischemic damage to macula are also possible causes. $ surgeries will also be stressful on optic nerve. Just because retina is re-attached doesn't mean you will automatically see well after 4 surgeries. Kind of like dropping your computer of your roof and then putting it back together again. It might be in one piece and actually work a little but will likely never be the same that it was.
