PCO day after cataract surgery clear lens

does the brand of lens have an affect on outcome?  I have always had mono vision and don't care if i need glasses but I have pain, can't see, feels like something is lodged in my eye and have to tape it shut for six months. The Refresh preservative free eye drops are a joke and burned my eye. Who selects the brand lens when insurance pays and you just want a clear lens? Like prescriptions usually insurance plays doctor and I wanted to know whose brand choice this was because I wasn't given a brand choice, only asked if I wanted vision correction. Other than the cataract why fix what isn't broken but that's the joke of the day since now I am stuck paying twice for one supposedly simple outpatient procedure and now want to go have it removed entirely.

Yag laser is only good for blurred vision.  It does not cause pain or redness.  Pred Forte 1% is a suspension. It will say on the bottle in fine print to shake. Many pharmacists put an extra tag on the bottle saying to shake and the prescribing information given when you buy the medication says to shake.   I still feel you need to see a consultant.  If your optometrist saw inflammation that is a problem.  A low grade infection (endophthalmitis) can cause ongoing infection in the eye can can be difficult to diagnose.  In describing why you need to go to a referral center you have ongoing pain, redness, sensitivity to light and blurred vision and your local doctors don't seem to be able to find a cause.

Many good places in TX.  Baylor is wonderful. This is a internationally known doctor that specializes in post cataract surgery problems:  https://www.chistlukeshealth.org/physician/Douglas-Koch-12777   If he can't see you another anterior segment surgeon in his department would likely be excellent. Also the Dean McGee eye institute of U of OK school of medicine is great.   This is a link to all ophthalmology programs in Texas. All strong programs:  https://www.residentswap.org/Ophthalmology/TX/      You could also go to Mayo Clinic in Florida, Vanderbilt,  Bascom Palmer eye institute of U of Miami. It would be best is you could find one close enough to drive within a reasonable time.  You may have to pay a duplication fee for your old records but legally they have to be provided to you upon payment and in a reasonable period of time. If not you can either send your lawyer to get them or you can call the county medical society and make a complaint.

Since my last post I had so much discomfort and pain in my eye I did see my optometrist I have seen for years. I wanted to make sure I didn’t have an infection prior to getting in to one of the specialist you recommended. She didn’t see anything unusual, no infection but inflammation and suggested I use a steroid drop a couple of weeks and come back. She was going to write me a prescription but I took the bottles I had from cataract surgery the surgeon told me to hold on to for now; and asked if either would suffice so she said the prednisone would be the same thing she would recommend and said “make sure you shake it prior to use”.  I did say “shake it? No one told me to shake it! ”  She basically said the good stuff or something similar to that separates me needs to be shaken before use and it was probably on the label but it wasn’t so I am afraid my first concerns were mild compared to my current concerns.
So is YAG laser my only concern or is there something else wrong since I didn’t get the benefit from the prednisone drops the entire post op treatment period?   I will have to travel either way but at my initial writing I was concerned about the lens, and then got recommendations from you based on those facts and not that I never had the inflammation under control from day one. What would I say to get into one of these doctors? Just that I need the YAG laser surgery or that I have continued inflammation I can’t control unless I continue these drops. The one drop I am referring to is prednisone acetate 1% and quite frankly I am scared to look up the other two ( antibiotic and one that is used at bedtime only) to see if they needed to be shaken as well.  I had a few good days after reinstating the steroids after my optometrist visit, but that’s it.  I know it’s not good to continue on them but now feel YAG laser may not be the only problem. I just want this fixed. It hurts, I can’t get around and don’t want to look like a pirate so when I call Univ of OK I want to articulate why I need to be there and why I need it as soon as possible. Just need advice what could possibly be a secondary issue so they schedule time to see me or even accept me as a patient.
Forgive any typographical error or run on sentences; this isn’t easy!
Thank you and have a safe holiday season.

Intraocular lenses (IOLs)  used in the United States are of high quality.  While patients are given a choice of monofocal, toric and multifocal , they are not given choice of brand names in most cases. This is the same as for most prosthetic devices used in the human body (hip replacements, heart valves, cochlear implants).  Hospitals cannot possible stock all implants and the implant should be one the surgeon is familiar with.    Your surgical outcome is decidedly abnormal and you need to see an Eye MD that specializes in post cataract surgery complications (which are few in number, cataract/IOL surgery is the most common and successful surgery done on adults).  If you live in a major US city I suggest the ophthalmology department of a University School of Medicine.

Agreed, specific brand names were not among the recommendations or choices I was offered for cataract surgery.
Thanks. Hope she gets some help.
As debilitating as my eye is at this point I ha e tried to find a “University” type doctor to see. I live in N Texas and close to OK and can’t find one at Baylor Waco or UTSW.  Any suggestions how to find a doc that is capable would be appreciated. I can’t even get my records from the original surgery, can’t leave the house and have ongoing pain in that eye. I tired what you suggested over and over but the screen and double vision makes it hard to look for someone. I will travel if I need to.
And all I have is Medicare A and B.  I saw no point in D since I don’t have enough prescriptions to warrant the premium and large deductible. I have considered patients without borders in Mexico if you know a university there
