PPV for 18mon Baby

Hi, My son has aphakid glaucoma. Baelvedt implant done on Feb for his right eye. Tube revision done on 26 April. After the revision, hyphema happen. Now the blood go to the back and block his vision. PPV arranged on coming Tuesday.

Last week his right eye seems unable to see and he always concentrate to his left side. This week, his right eye seems able to see something, at least light, as he started to move to his right.

Every operation has its risk, i am wondering should my son go for PPV or let the blood gone by itself? How long for the blood to totally gone? he is 18 months and wearing an aphakid glasses.

Thank you in advance.

Yes it is a major operation.  The blood does not always go away by itself and can cause problems like glaucoma or cornea staining, no gas is not usually injected into the eye unless the retina is detached or there is a macular hole.

1 more question, PPV to take out blood in the eye does not need to fill in gas or oil like retinal detachment operation, right? Sorry if its a silly question, i just want to clarify, thank you.

Hi doctor, do u think PPV for my son case is a major operation? it will take around 30 min, according to the surgeon.

Normally around how long for the blood to go away by itself for pediatric aphakic case?

Thank you.

Only you can make that decision after thorough discussion with your child's eye surgeons. You can always get a second opinion.  And FYI it's "aphakic" glaucoma. That means without the natural lens. Phakic  means with the natural lens.
